About 5 de Mayo...
In the United States, Cinco de Mayo is a day to celebrate Mexican food, culture, and traditions. Of course, it's also a great excuse to enjoy a margarita and a big plate of nachos, too. However, many who celebrate in the U.S. assume, incorrectly, that Cinco de Mayo is Mexico's Independence Day. But, it's not. Instead, just like Saint Patrick's Day is a day to celebrate Irish culture for Irish-Americans, Cinco de Mayo is a day for Mexican-Americans to show pride in their unique heritage.
So, by all means, celebrate Cinco de Mayo, but do so respectfully.
Throw a Mexican fiesta. Learn about Mexican traditions and culture by engaging with some of your closest Mexican-American friends. We can make Cinco de Mayo the perfect day to celebrate diversity, acceptance, and, of course, great food.
